Description
The Old Fashioned is one of the most respected cocktails of all the classics. It is considered by most authorities to be the “first classic cocktail”, and predates both the Martini and the Manhattan. This cocktail coin celebrates the rich history of the drink.
It’s a perfect gift for the cocktail enthusiast or bartender to either display on their home bar or carry around in their pocket. Cocktail and whiskey clubs may even use them to perform the standard challenge coin ritual–the person that forgot to carry their coin is responsible for buying the next round.
This coin is 1.75″, features an antique gold finish, and is 100% made in the USA. The coin’s front features an illustration of the old fashioned by renown designer, Jason Yang. The iconic rocks glass holds a large hand-cut cube of ice surrounded by whiskey and is garnished with an expressed orange peel and a cherry on a cocktail sword.

History of the Old Fashioned
Jerry Thomas secured his place in cocktail history when he published the first cocktail recipe book. It’s in this book that he published the recipe for the whiskey cocktail, a precursor to the old fashioned.
The Old Fashioned has remained popular, despite a brief dark era where it became a mixture of whiskey, muddled with a slice of orange and a cherry, then topped with soda water. Thanks to the modern cocktail renaissance, a wave of bars became interested in making drinks that were historically accurate and balanced.
Cocktail writer, Robert Simonson, phrased this eloquently by stating, “When properly made according to its original specifications, the Old Fashioned’s amber glow is no longer obscured by phosphorescent refugees from the produce department. The biting edge of the whiskey is not dulled by corn syrup, but instead gently softened by a touch of water, sweetened by a lump of sugar, and accented by the bitters, which bind together the drink’s few ingredients in harmony.”
Cheers!

The design of the Old Fashioned Coin is simple and tasteful. The material of which it is made is of good quality. I have recently given an Old Fashioned Coin to someone “in memory of stimulating conversation.” I am looking forward to future Cocktail Coins and to future stimulating conversations.
